Janet M. Engel, 73, of Bruno, died Tuesday, December 15, 2015 in Portland, Oregon.
PER JAN'S WISHES, IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, MEMORIALS IN CARE OF THE FAMILY.
Janet Marie (Miratsky) Engel was born 1/22/1942 in Prague Nebraska, she attended grade school at Bruno District 46 Country School which was by the Miratsky family farm. She graduated from David City High School in 1960 and attended college in Omaha receiving a junior accounting degree. Janet married Daniel L. Engel October 5, 1963 in Bruno and lived in Iowa where all 4 children were born. The family moved to Bruno in 1972 where she helped with the family dairy farm and raised her children who attended Aquinas High School all at the same time! (senior, junior, sophomore and freshman)
She worked as an Aide at St. Mary’s School, a bus driver for Aquinas High School, Frontier Coop, Waste Connections and Bryon Hartman Auto Repair. She also did bookkeeping for Dan’s Seed outlet business. She loved going to all of her Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren’s events! They were the pride, joy and love of her life! Once she related herself as a mother goose gathering in all her little goslings. Hence, the nickname “Goose” stuck! Of course Grandpa Dan had to be called “Gander” - so affectionately “Goose & Gander” were Grandpa and Grandma Engel. Crochet/Knitting, gardening and reading were her hobbies. She especially loved flowers and always said “Flowers are for the Living”. She enjoyed camping with her family and polka dancing with Dan.
Angels and butterflies were her favorite things in life. It was common for family members to receive the magazine subscription “Angels Among Us” for gifts! Her faith was a very important part of her life. She belonged to Appleton Assumption Parish and was a member of San Salvador Court #576 of the Catholic Daughters.
