A Funeral Mass for James L. Waters, 91 of Omaha, formerly of Schuyler will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, February 23, 2015 at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church in Schuyler. Visitation will be held at the Svoboda Funeral Home North Chapel on Sunday from5 PM to 7 PM and on Monday from 9 AM to 10:15 AM. A combined Knights of Columbus and Parish rosary will be recited at 7 PM on Sunday. Burial will be in the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery at Schuyler with Military Honors.
Jim was born March 2, 1923 in Colfax County to John and Mary (Higgins) Waters. He attended rural grade school and graduated from Schuyler High School in 1939. He served in the Army during WWII in the Pacific Theater. On September 1, 1952 he married Marcella Emanuel at St. Charles Catholic Church in North Bend. Jim farmed in the Schuyler area, was a member of the American Legion and the V.F.W. and was a member of the Last Man’s Club. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was 3rd and 4th Degree Knight. Jim had served as a Colfax County Commissioner. In 1992 Jim and Marcella moved to Mesa, Arizona and following Marcella’s death September 9, 2014 Jim moved to Omaha to be closer to his nieces and nephews. Jim died February 17, 2015 at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.
Jim is survived by nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Marcella; sister Marie Wolff; nephew, Patrick Wolff.
