A Mass of Christian Burial for 84 year old James P. Scanlon of Columbus, formerly of Schuyler will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, August 15th at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church in Schuyler. Visitation will be from 4 PM to 7 PM on Friday and from 9 AM to 10:15 AM on Saturday all at the Svoboda Funeral Home North Chapel. Rosary will be recited at 7 PM on Friday at the North Chapel. Burial will be in the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery at Schuyler. James passed away on Monday August 10th at the Cottonwood House in Columbus.
James was born March 15, 1931 in Colfax County to Garrett E. and Anna (Casey) Scanlon. He attended Fisher’s School in Colfax County and was a life long farmer. He helped take care of his parents for a number of years allowing them to stay on the farm longer. He was a member of St. Augustine's Catholic Church. James moved to Columbus in April 2007.
James is survived by one sister, Rita Kaup of West Point; two nieces Carol (Russ) Reha of Schuyler and Maureen Mausbach of Columbus, one nephew Kevin (Rhonda) Kaup of West Point; 5 great nephews and 3 great great nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Edward Scanlon, and Marvin Scanlon, and sister Marie Lapacek.
Memorials are suggested “In Care of the Family”.
