James was born February 21, 1929 in Colfax County on a farm south of Howells to Joseph and Katherine (Bocian) Hejhal. He attended Colfax County rural school and served in the Army during the Korean Conflict, May 1, 1952 to April 30, 1954. He was a member of the Howells American Legion, enjoyed fishing, hunting and trapping, gardening and playing cards. James died November 5, 2012, at the age of 83, at the Golden Living Center in Schuyler where he had been a resident the past four years. James is survived by seven of his eleven siblings; twin brother, Joseph Hejhal of Howells, Gene (Diane) Hejhal of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, Elmer Hejhal of Fremont, Elsie (Eugene) Alexander of Omaha, Mary (Adolph) Jindra, Katherine (Lawrence) Bayer, Alice (Fred) Krenk all of Schuyler; many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John and Donald Hejhal; sisters, Tillie Krutz and Dorraine Hejhal. Funeral lunch will be served at St. Mary's Social Center folowing interment in the Schuyler Cemetery.
