Jim was born August 3, 1920, in the Heun area of Colfax County, to Vaclav and Anna (Mosansky) Cech. He attended District #47 and lived in his birth home until moving to Schuyler in 1992. Jim married Marie Polodna on September 25, 1945 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Howells. Jim loved farming, and one of his joys after they moved to town was driving his Cub Cadet lawn mower. He tended his garden through his 92nd year and often said he liked to watch things grow. He could also be seen riding his bicycle around the neighborhood, well into his nineties. Jim had a quick wit and great sense of humor, and his friends and family will miss his “Jimmyisms.” He also enjoyed music, dancing, playing cards and watching westerns. He had served on the District #47 school board and the Midland Precinct election board. He was a lifetime member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and belonged to the Howells Knights of Columbus. Jim died March 21, 2014 at Creighton Medical Center in Omaha.
Jim is survived by 2 daughters, Linda (Ken) Jensen-Hamsa of Norfolk and Mary Jane Miller of Omaha; three grandchildren, Greg (Nicole) Jensen, Sheila (Kevin) Simon and Brett Jensen; four great grandchildren, Kaylie and Derek Jensen and Abygale and Maya Simon; one sister, Libbie Ann Mastny of Schuyler.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Marie (11/9/1997); son-in-law, Gale Jensen; sister, Julia Sobota
