Irene J. Svoboda passed away February 1, 2019 at St. Joseph's Villa in David City, NE.
Irene was born on July 3, 1925 to William and Emma(Sedlacek) Andel in Schuyler, NE. Irene. Irene attended Appleton Grade School and graduated from Octavia High School. She briefly attended Midland College. On June 13, 1950 she married Cyril Svoboda at Assumption Church, Appleton. There were married for 68 years. Five children were born to this union.
She taught for a number of years at Appleton, and also worked at Henningson's Foods. Later she was employed as a librarian at St. Mary's Elementary, however her most important roles in life were that of a wife, mother, and grandmother.
Her family will remember her best for Sunday dinners, french fries, dumpling soup, and radishes. She loved reading to her grandchildren and attending their many functions. Irene and Cy traveled with their children and grandchildren to many states across the U.S.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years: Cyril Svoboda; children: Carolee Svoboda, of Lincoln, John(Dee) Svoboda, of Lincoln, Mary Ann Mattingly, of David City, Jim Svoboda, of David City, Randy(Barb) Svoboda; brother: Bill(Donna) Andel; grandchildren: Jeremy(Elizabeth) Svoboda, Nicole(Shane) Chiles, Trevor(Nikki) Svoboda, Anna Mattingly, Benjamin Mattingly, Emma(Travis) Leivian, Jane Mattingly, Steven(Elizabeth) Svoboda, Megan Svoboda, Melissa Svoboda, Miles Svoboda, Bailey Svoboda, Macy Svoboda, Reese Svoboda and Rylan Svoboda; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Irene is preceded in death by her parents; and infant brother: Theodore; and a sister: Alice(Gene) Kindler.
