Ilene Louise Aerts, 90, of David City, passed away October 21, 2016 at St. Joseph's Villa in David City.
Ilene was born on April 4, 1926 , just west of Bellwood, to Joseph and Minnie(Sprunk) Mick. She graduated from Bellwood High School, and on January 25, 1949, she was united in holy matrimony to William Aerts at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Bellwood.
She and her husband built a life together on their farm South of St. Francis Church. She remained on the farm until 2014 when she moved to St. Joseph's Court and later to St. Joseph's Villa. Ilene was a devout housekeeper and cook for many of the priests at Center Church. She also had a green thumb and used it to raise beautiful flowers and a large garden. She would share her flowers, and the bounty of her garden with family, friends, and neighbors.
Along with her green thumb, she was a wonderful cook. Ilene and several other ladies were responsible, with the help of the priest at the time, for starting the Center spaghetti dinner. She worked diligently along side her loving husband in the field and on the farm. Ilene loved her four grandchildren: Matt, Amy, Libby, and Jake. She enjoyed their company immensely, and truly loved spending time with them. She also enjoyed quilting.
Ilene is survived by her daughter: Cheryl (Rod) Reisen, of Ashland, NE; grandchildren: Matt, Amy, Libby, and Jake Reisen, of Ashland, NE; sisters-in-law: Loreen (Walter) Mick, Darlene (Leonard) Darnell, Maxine (Ted) Aerts, Julia (Leo) Aerts; brother-in-law: Frank (Mary Ann) Aerts; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husand: Bill in 2001; grandson: Nathan; brothers: Joseph, Louis, and Walter Mick; and sister: Augusta(Gussie) Mick Kracman.
