Harold Horner

March 16, 1942 — August 4, 2014

Funeral service for 72 year old Harold Horner, of Schuyler, will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, August11th at the Christ United Methodist Church.
Visitation will be held Sunday from 2 PM to 7 PM at the Svoboda Funeral Home North Chapel and Monday at the church starting at 9:30 AM. Burial will be in the Schuyler Cemetery.

Harold was born March 16, 1942 in Norfolk to Irvin and Bessie (Moorhead) Horner. He graduated from Norfolk High School in 1959 and attended Norfolk Junior College for two years. He transferred to Kearney State Teachers College and graduated in 1964 with his teaching certificate. Harold taught three years in Loup City before moving to Schuyler in 1968 where he taught until 2001. He received his Master Degree in education from UNL.

Harold married Loretta Shrader on August 24, 1963 in Norfolk. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Schuyler Golf Club, Schuyler Education Association, and the Nebraska State Education Association. Over the years he spent his summers mowing lawns (over 40 years), selling fireworks for Marv’s Discount Fireworks (over 30 years), running a corn detasseling crew and working other various jobs. Harold enjoyed golfing, pheasant hunting and Husker sports. After he retired he worked for Svoboda Funeral Home until 2011. During football season he kept the Statistics for the Schuyler Warriors from 1972 to 2005. Harold died August 4, 2014 in Schuyler.

He is survived by his wife, Loretta of Schuyler; three sons, Scott (Laurie) of Lincoln, Jeff (Amanda) of Fort Wayne, IN and Troy of Fort Collins, CO; five grandchildren Ashley, Seth, Brooke, Maggie and Allie Horner; brother, Marvin (Kay) Horner of Collins, GA; brother-in-law, Don Volk of Norfolk.

He is preceded by his parents and one sister, Ruth Volk.

Funeral lunch will be served at the church following the committal service.
