Hanziena Svoboda

Hanziena E. Svoboda, 76, of Surprise passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2024 in Lincoln. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, August 26, at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Ulysses. Visitation will be Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m., with a Parish Rosary starting at 6 p.m, all at Church. Visitation will resume Monday at 9 a.m. After Mass, a funeral lunch will be held in the Church hall. Interment will be at 1:30 p.m. in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Shelby. Moravec Johnson Mortuary is assisting Hanziena’s family with arrangements.

Hanziena was born September 1, 1947 in Seward, Nebraska to Herbert and Anna (Murray) Haase, and passed away on August 21, 2024 at Bryan East Hospital in Lincoln. 

 She married Larry Svoboda on February 14, 1970 and enjoyed 48 years of marriage. Hanziena and Larry had 6 wonderful kids: Donna, Roger, Dwaine, Larry Jr., Sheila, and Todd. They raised their family in the Butler County area. 

 She was employed at Mory's Haven in Columbus where she worked as a CNA for 34 years. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Ulysses, Nebraska. 

 Hanziena enjoyed her flowers, doing Word-Find Puzzles, watching Nebraska football games, and loved spending time with her kids and grandchildren. She had a love for birds, especially cardinals. She loved playing the game Rummy, but refused to stop until she had won the game. She loved to call her sister, Elly, every morning at 9 a.m. to have coffee and visit over the phone. Hanziena was a very loving mother. She took care of all her children, and anyone who needed a hand. She also enjoyed baking and always had banana bread or cornflake bars for her grandchildren and children when they visited.

 She is survived by her daughter, Donna Schultz (Scott) Leifert of Surprise and children: Scott Leifert Jr., of Columbus, Dusty Leifert (Victoria) of Sioux City, Harley Leifert of Surprise, son, Roger Schultz and children: Darlene Cannon of Omaha, Ashley (Anthony) Peterson of Fremont, Amber Schultz of Wahoo, Roger Jr. Schultz of Wahoo, son, Dwaine Svoboda of Surprise and child: Shane (Vanessa) Svoboda of Ord, daughter, Sheila (Jim) Klement of Ulysses and children: Haley, Dylan, Jacob, and Cole Klement, son, Todd Svoboda of Surprise, brother, Chuck Haase of Seward, sisters: Elly (Lloyd) of Polivka, AZ, Anna (Ken) Dasher of Nebraska City, sister-in-law, Carol (Ray) Harris, 11 great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and friends. 

 She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry in 2018, infant son, Larry Svoboda Jr. in 1971, son, Roger Schultz in 2020, 3 brothers: Ervin, Virgil, and Clifford Haase, sister, Viola Rueth, 4 sister-in-laws: Judy, Leona, Geraldine, and Judy Haase, Father-in-law George and mother-in-law Alice (Cemper) Svoboda.
