Grace Hoeft, 94, of David City, formerly of Ulysses, passed away on Monday, April 8, at David's Place in David City.
A funeral service will be held Friday, April 12 at 10:30 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church near Rising City. Visitation will be on Thursday, April 11, from 5-7 p.m. at Chermok Funeral Home in David City. Visitation will resume Friday morning from 10 a.m. until the start of the service. Burial to follow at Ulysses Township Cemetery. Lunch will be held at the Ulysses Community Hall. Chermok Moravec Johnson Mortuary is handling arrangements for Grace's family.

Grace was born two miles east of Ulysses, Nebraska in a farmhouse. She was the daughter of James J. and Julia (Howe) White, born on March 27, 1930. She attended Rural Districts #74 and #31, (Leader). She was a 1947 graduate of Ulysses High School, and a graduate of the National Business Institute of Lincoln, Nebraska and worked as a Private Secretary for Central Electric and Gas Company.
On February 20, 1949, she was united in marriage to Loran H Hoeft of Garrison, at Immanuel Lutheran Church near Rising City. In 1968 she took employment outside the home, including 18 years at the Butler County Courthouse in the Treasurer's Office. She retired in 1995, and served as the Village Clerk for Ulysses for five years as Certified Municipal Clerk. She was a charter member of the Ulysses Community Club and Ulysses Neighbors Extension Club. She also Participated in the Ladies Aid, Choir, Leader school PTA, Ulysses Alumni secretary, VFW Auxiliary, Knauber and Grim cemetery boards. She helped with the reorganization of the Pioneer Cemeteries, and placed information on all area cemeteries on the internet in 2002. She enjoyed quilt making in retirement. She loved flowers, gardens, and orchards, trees, birds, animals, and polka dancing.
She is survived by her sons: Ronald J. (Joyce), James L. (Nancy), Verne S. (Paula), all of Omaha, Larry D. of Seward, and Lora J. (Tracy) Mickley of Madison Lake, MN, 14 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Loran, in 2016, parents, James J. and Julia, grandson, Matthew Hoeft, brothers and wives, Howard and Gladys White, Burton and Una White, Florence White, Morris and Anita White, sister and brother in laws, Gladys and William Osborne, Leona and Del Uribe, Walter and Beth Hoeft, Norval and Evelyn Hoeft, infant sister Rosa, parent in law, Herman and Mattie Hoeft
