Geraldine Hladky, 102, of Schuyler, died Thursday, September 21, 2023 at Emerald Nursing Home in Columbus.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 26, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Schuyler. Visitation will be on Monday, from 5 until 7 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church with a Parish Rosary at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume Tuesday from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Schuyler Cemetery with lunch following at the St. Mary's Social Center. Svoboda Funeral Home is handling arrangements for Geraldine's family.
Memorials may be directed in care of the family for a later designation.
Geraldine B. Hladky was born on February 9, 1921, on a farm near Schuyler to Emil Strnad and Carrie (Vanicek) Strnad. She grew up on a farm east of Richland, graduating from Schuyler High School in 1937. On September 20, 1943, she married Adolph A. Hladky at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Schuyler. Geraldine passed away on September 21, just one day after her and Adolph’s 80th wedding anniversary. Geraldine worked at the Oberg Hatchery. In 1971 she worked at the Memorial Hospital serving as a dietician’s assistant until her retirement in 1988.
Geraldine was active in volunteering at the Schuyler Senior Center and has served on the governing board for many years. She coordinated several fundraisers, planned year’s events, Labor Day lunches, bingo, and meal verifications. In 2005, Geraldine was recognized for her hard work and hours of volunteering by receiving Sertoma’s Service to Mankind Award. Geraldine was recognized again in 2017 for being a Long Time Volunteer at the Center. Geraldine loved animals, gardening, and caring for flowers.
Geraldine is survived by her son, Marvin (Patricia) Hladky of Schuyler.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband Adolph in 2001.
