George Scholz

George A. Scholz, 71, Crete, formerly of Brainard, died Thursday, November 6, 2008 at Crete Area Medical Center.
Funeral Mass will be Saturday, Novembr 8, 2008 at 10:00am in Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Brainard with Fr. Matthew Eickhoff officiating. Burial will be in the Holy Trinity Cemetery. Rosary will be Friday, November 7, 2008 at 7:00pm at the church. Viewing will be on Friday, from 3pm until 5pm at Holesovsky Mortuary in Brainard. There will be addtional viewing at the church on Friday from 6-7pm, and on Saturday, one hr before services also at the church.
George was born on July 2, 1937 to John and Anna(Benes)Scholz on the farm near Brainard. He attended Districe #48 and helped out on the farm with his dad and worked various jobs. On March 17, 1955, He joined the Army National Guard Reserve 568th Field Artillery at Wahoo serving until enlisting in the Air Force on April 25, 1957 at Ft. Crook, Omaha, Nebraska. He was an Air Force jet engine mechanic and speciality gunner 105 Howitzer. He was discharged at Portland, Oregon on Jan. 29, 1960.
He returned home to Brainard where he farmed, raised livestock and worked at Goodyear for one year. He married Shirley Odvody on Sept. 19, 1961 at St. Wenceslaus Church in Bee. He then farmed full time for 45 years until he semi-retired and moved to Crete in October of 2005. He worked at the Crete Wal-Mart as a part time greeter.
George was a member of the Brainard Community Club, the WFLA Lodge #68 for over 50yrs and a past corresponding secretary for 10 yrs. He was also a member of the Butler County Pork Producers, serving as secretary and state reporter. He was on the East Butler School Board of Education as secretary from 1984 until 1988. He served as treasurer on the Oak Creek Township Board from 1994 until 2005. He was also a District 6 Supervisor for 4 yrs and a member of Holy Trinity Church in Brainard and currently a member of Sacred Heart in Crete.
Survivors include his wife Shirley of Crete, son: Michael(Pam) Scholz of Crete, 2 Grandsons Matthew and Caleb Scholz of Crete; 3 Sisters: Albina(Cyril)Kellner of Wahoo; Helen(Phil)Kellner of Weston; and Anne(Ruban)Kavan of Morse Bluff along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son Mark, brothers: Adolph, Ernst, Rudolph, and Johnny, one sister: Lillian Hennessey.
