George Janak, 88, formerly of Bellwood, passed away on January 17, 2014 at the Grand Island Veterans Home.
George was born January 11, 1926 to Albert and Molly (Zima) Janak near Surprise, Nebraska. He attended school through the 8th grade, then he helped his family on the farm. George joined the Navy in June of 1944 and served until July of 1946. He worked and owned a body shop and used car dealership from 1950 until retirement at the age of 64. George also worked for Tonniges Chevrolet and as a car detailer for Ernst Auto in Columbus. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and raising exotic birds and animals. He especially loved the different breeds of deer. Later in life he got to enjoy time with his family and friends. In the past year, George received an honorary high school diploma at the Veterans Home.
George is survived by his children: Danny Janak of North Platte and Gale Gomez of Millard; brother: Richard Janak; sisters: Irene Sanley, Rose Osmera, and Molly Jisa; 6 grandchildren: Molly Janak, Jake Janak, Saul Tranquilino, Jacob Tranquilino, David Tranquilino, and Ricky Torres; 5 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Adolph, Alex, William, and Ernest; sister: Carrie, and an infant sister.
