Genevieve Scanlan, 97, of Schuyler passed away Wednesday, January 20, 2016 in Schuyler. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday, January 25, 2016 at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church. Visitation will be Sunday from 3:00 P.M. to 6:30 P.M. at the Svoboda Funeral Home South Chapel, followed by a Parish Rosary at 6:30 P.M. Visitation will continue Monday one hour before services at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
Genevieve was born February 13, 1918 in North Bend, NE to Simon Peter “Dick” and Kate (Healy) Gumm. She graduated from District 11 Dodge County High School in 1932. On September 21, 1948, Genvieve married C. L. Scanlan at St. Augustine’s Church in Schuyler. She was a homemaker, 4-H Leader, and a member of the Red Hats. She enjoyed family parties, going to garage sales, being outdoors, flower gardening, and spending time with all of her very special grandchildren. She demonstrated her deep faith in Jesus which she inherited from her Irish ancestors.
Genevieve is survived by two daughters: Mary Peschel of Schuyler and Rose (Ron) Hulsey of Schuyler; grandchildren: Shane (Lisa) Kluck of Aurora, NE, Jeff (Melissa) Kluck of Rogers, NE, Josh (Jami) Hulsey of Atkinson, NE, Billie Jo Hulsey of Elkhorn, NE, Kim (Dave) Jennings of Cedar Rapids, IA, Kelly (Brenda) Peschel of Lincoln, NE, Jason (Deb) Peschel of Colfax, WA, and Jessica Peschel of Lincoln, NE; and 18 great grandchildren.
Genevieve was preceded in death by her parents, husband C.L. in 1984 and sister Catherine.
