Frank A. Pekarek, 91, of David City died Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at St. Joseph's Villa in David City.
Funeral Mass will be Friday, June 19, 2009 at 10:00am in St. Mary's Church with Fr. Bernard Kimminau officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Viewing will be from 5-7pm on Thursday followed by a 7pm rosary all at Chermok Funeral Home. Additional viewing will be on Friday from 9-10am at the church.
Memorials may be given in care of the family.
Frank was born on March 24, 1918 on the farm near Valparaiso to Frank and Frances(Svoboda)Pekarek. He attended the local schools and helped his dad farm. He entered the Army on August 27, 1942 at Ft. Crook, Nebraska and was honorably discharged on May 18, 1943 at Camp Carson, Colorado.
After his military service, he married Lillian Bartek on November 24, 1945 at Assumption Catholic Church, Dwight. They lived in the Valparaiso, Omaha, Wahoo and David City areas.
Frank farmed for a short period and then after his discharge, he went to work at the Mead Ordinance Plant for several years. He then worked for a farm implement dealer in Wahoo, delivering farm machinery. He retired from the implement company and moved to David City in 1979.
Frank and his wife enjoyed traveling the local countryside, visiting their nieces and nephews. His routine included his daily stops for coffee at Northside, visiting with his coffee groups.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian, and several nieces and nephews.
