Frances W. Malovec, 98, of David City, died Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at BryanLGH West in Lincoln.
Funeral Mass will be Monday, May 10, 2010 at 9:30am in St. Mary's Church, David City with Fr. Bernard Kimminau and Fr. Raymond Jansen concelebrating. Burial will be in the old Holy Trinity Cemetery, rural Brainard, Nebraska.
Viewing will be Sunday from 2-5pm at Chermok Funeral Home and after 6pm at the church followed by a PCCW Rosary at 7PM in St. Mary's Church. Additional viewing will be on Monday from 8:45 until 9:30am at the church.
IN LIEU OF FLOWERS: Memorials may be given for Masses or In Care of the Family.
Frances W. Malovec was born on July 1, 1911 to Leonard and Hattie(Litjen)Zegers on the family farm south of David City. She attended the rural school district and David City High School.
She married Louis J. Malovec of Brainard on February 4, 1936 at St. Francis(Center)Church. They had met at one of the Center dances. They farmed near Brainard for many years and then moved by Ulysses in 1958 and continued to farm. Three children were born to this union.
After Louis death in 1967, she moved north of David City where she lived for short time before moving into David City where she lived until her death. She worked at Dales Electronics in Columbus for 16 years before retiring in 1976.
Frances enjoyed her retirement by spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. It was said that her house was like Grand Central Station with everyone coming and going. She liked to play cards, especially pitch, and she enjoyed planting flowers and working in her garden.
Frances is survived by her children and their families: Don Malovec of David City, Doris(Ernie)Shonka of Surprise, Janet Malovec of David City; 6 Grandchildren: Keith(Karen)Shonka of Bellwood; Dave(Renee)Shonka of Lincoln, Gregg(Amy)Shonka of Lincoln, Chris(Veronica)Shonka of Fort Collins, CO, Kathy(Mike)Beran of Lincoln and Sherri(Jason)Suelter of Lincoln.
She is survived by 18 Great-grandchildren: Jake, Cole, Katie and Ben Shonka, Presley and Gannon Shonka, Andrew, Aryssa, Anna and Abby Shonka, Max Shonka, Zach and Grant Beran, Julia, Emma, Felicity, Will, and Henry Suelter. Her sister-in-law: Dorothy Zegers of David City and 11 nieces and nephews along with a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Louis in 1967, one grandson: Kenny Shonka, five brothers: Leonard(infant), Harold, Art, Ed, and Carl Zegers, three sisters: Irene Zegers, Laura Rutten and Gertrude Alt.
