Eugene "Bud" Smola, 88, of Dwight, died Monday, Sept. 1, 2014 at david place in David City.

Eugene "Bud" Smola was born on September 18, 1925 to Joseph and Helen(Slosar)Smola at Omaha, Nebraska. He graduated from Omaha South High School in 1943 and went on to attend college for two years. Bud entered the Air Force in 1945 and served as a flight navigator. He was discharged in 1948. Bud married Elsie Andel on April 20, 1953 at Assumption Catholic Church, Appleton. Five children were born to this union. Bud was a farmer most of his life. He also worked as a Field Report for the local ASCS office. In later years, Bud worked as a machinery salesperson for Red County International.
Bud was a member of Assumption Catholic Church, Dwight, he also belonged to Dwight Legion Post 110. He was a member of the East Butler School Board for many years and was also a Vets Class Instructor. He played the drums with several area bands including the Nebraska Czech Brass Band. He enjoyed attending sporting events especially when they involved his children and grandchildren. In his spare time, Bud refurbished tractors, cars, trucks and vans, and followed the local 4H and FFA events.
Bud is survived by his children: Sheryl(Bill)Hughes of Dunn, NC, Rick(Jane)Smola of David City, Joe(Carol)Smola of Dwight, Patti Romshek of David City and Jeanne Smola of Dwight. 11 Grandchildren and 10 Great-grandchildren
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife: Elsie in 2012 and one sister: Dorothy Smola, granddaughter: Kimberly Hughes, and son-in-law: Dennis Romshek.
