Eugene L. Dvorak, 84 of Brainard, died Saturday, December 19, 2009 at the Grand Island Veteran's Home.
Memorial Services will be Wednesday, December 30, 2009, 10:30am at Holesovsky Mortuary, Brainard, with Rev. Glenn Hubbard officiating. Inurnment will be in the Bohemian National Cemetery, rural Brainard. Military Graveside Rites by Rejda Legion Post 273 of Brainard.

Eugene Lee Dvorak was born on Aprl 5, 1925 in Brainard, Nebraska, the only child of Anton and Emily(Nozicka)Dvorak. He attended Brainard School and the United Methodist Sunday School. He was a paper carrier for the Lincoln Journal during grade school and played soprano sax and basson throughout school. He graduated from Brainard High School in 1942.
He was drafted in 1943, during WWII and served in the 689th Field Artillery Battalion, Patton's Third Army and participated in the Battle of the Bulge, returning home in 1946.
Eugene married Lucille Vanous at David City in 1946. Six children were born to this union. He managed country grain elevators in Ulysses and Howells, NE and in Arthur, Iowa. In 1978, he returned to the Brainard area and worked in maintenance for Henningsen Foods of David City, and shortly thereafter, Eugene and Lucille divorced.
On September 7, 1985, Eugene married Pauline Utterback Hansen in David City.
He retired from Henningsen's in 1991 and enjoyed traveling, gardening and raising Bantam Chickens.
Eugene belonged to the Brainard Methodist Church, Rejda Legion Post 273, Masonic Fidelity Lodge #51, and Alma Chapter #20 Order of Eastern Star.
He is survived by his wife:Pauline, Son: Robert(Veniece)Dvorak of Papillion, NE; Daughters: Lynn Dvorak, Pam(Bob)Hawley of Vero Beach,FL; Roxanne(Nick)LaRussa of Wilmington, DE; Susie(Mike)Wilson of Marysville, KS; Daughter-in-law: Cindy Dvorak of Ventura, Iowa; Step-daughters: Nancy(Doug)Knapp of York; Laurie(Rich)Jansen and Vicki(Larry)Chinn both of David City; Debbie Bennett of Wesley, Iowa 17 Grandchildren; 9 Great-grandchildren.
Eugene was preceded in death by his parents; one son: Phillip Dvorak; and son-in-law: Gary Peterson.
