Esther M. Hoffman

Esther M. Hoffman, 96, of Rising City, Passed away March 12, 2017 at david place in David City.

Esther was born February 16, 1921 to Henry and Emma (Joost) Nordmeyer in Rising City. She was the eldest of 4 daughters.

After 2 years of college she began her teaching career at a country school north of Rising City, District 30. After a period at home following her marriage and raising her family, she began her 23 consecutive years with Rising City Public Schools in 1956, the last 10 of which she was librarian. (she also completed her Bachelor's Degree from University of Ne. after 10 summers of attending summer school) She retired at the end of the 1978-79 school year.

Esther was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Rising City, where she taught Sunday School for a number of years. She also led a variety of Bible Study groups. She stayed very busy, following retirement, with her participation in numerous church and community groups.

She spent many hours taking care of her yard and beautiful rose garden. She took painting lessons and created many striking landscapes. She loved family gatherings and everyone enjoyed her delicious cinnamon rolls and angel food cake. Her grandma chili at Christmas was the best!! Her owl collection was surpassed by none. (and was continual counting practice for grandchildren)

She is survived by her children: Roger(Linda) Hoffman, of Omaha, Linda(Paul) Chatelain, of Rising City, and Rick Hoffman, of Omaha; sister: Viola Hall; 9 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Esther was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Erwin; daughter: Connie Barnell; daughter-in-law: LeAnn Hoffman; and sisters: Verna Potter and Estella Mortensen.
