Estella Mortensen, 93, of Rising City, passed away August 16, 2015 at the Community Columbus Hospital.

Estella was born August 13, 1922 to Henry and Emma(Joost) Nordmeyer in Rising City, Nebraska. She graduated from Rising City High School in 1939, and obtained a Bachelor's of Science Degree from Clarkson College in 1944. Estella entered the Army Nurse Corps on May 15, 1945 and served as a nurse during World War II, until February 26, 1946. On January 5, 1946, she and Martin Mortensen were united in marriage, in Denver, CO.
Estella was a devoted wife, and loved life on the farm. She was involved in many church activities, which included making quilts and providing funeral dinners. Estella was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Club, and enjoyed going to her nursing reunions. She especially loved when her children and grandchildren came to visit.
Estella is survived by her children: Larry (Mary) Mortensen, of Beaumont, CA, Ted Mortensen, of Broad Run, VA, Steve (Janice) Mortensen, of Wake Forest, NC; sisters: Viola Hall, Esther Hoffman; 6 grandchildren: Tyler (Yolanda) Mortensen, Gary (Joyce) Mortensen, Laura Mortensen, Leslie (Jeremy) Hinkle, Aaron (Jennifer) Mortensen, Teri Mortensen; 4 great-grandchildren: Mia Estella Mortensen, Cameron Mortensen, Erica and Megan Hinkle; and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband: Martin in 2010; infant daughter: Virginia; and sister: Verna Potter.
