Eric J. Betzen, 47, of David City passed away in his sleep, Friday, June 21, 2019.

Eric James Betzen was born to Kendall Betzen and Betty (Yindrick) Betzen on November 17, 1971, in McPherson, Kansas. He attended St. Mary’s Elementary school and graduated from David City Public Schools, class of 1990. He went on to attend Wyoming Technical College in Laramie, Wyoming with a degree in automotive technology. After graduation, he returned home to work for Adamy Chevrolet and Frontier Co-op. He worked for David City Power Plant for 20 years and was currently employed as Butler County Emergency Management Coordinator. He was also currently serving as a David City Public School Board Member since 2017. Eric was a past member of the David City Volunteer Fire Department for several years before rejoining this year.
Eric married Heidi Smith May 14, 1994. Two sons were born to this union, Jake Betzen of Norfolk and Lee Betzen of Lincoln. Eric married Darci Sitzman on August 2, 2013, adding a step-daughter, Cassidy and a step-son Alec Wieser to his family. He enjoyed coaching youth baseball and football. He also loved to go camping with his family. He loved to work with his hands and would create many things. He also enjoyed tinkering in his shop and around the yard. He worked effortlessly to make his hometown of David City a better place.
Eric is survived by his wife Darci, sons Jake, Lee, and Alec, daughter Cassidy. He is also survived by his parents Kendall Betzen of Bellevue and Betty (Elizabeth) Betzen of David City, Father-in-law Brad Sitzman of Plattsmouth, brother Kevin (Amy) Betzen, sister Jessica (Jason) Miller all of David City, brother-in-law Steven (Emily) Sitzman of Omaha. Nieces and nephews: Courtney (Eugene) Prochaska of Lincoln, Devin (fiancé Katie Romshek) Betzen, Hunter Betzen, Chloe, Zachary, Kaylee, Reilly, Wesley, and Colby Miller all of David City as well as several cousins and relatives.
Eric is preceded in death by his grandparents Lee and Gladys Yindrick, Francis and Glenna Merle Betzen, Uncle Keith Betzen, Cousin Amy Krushelniski, Mother-in-law Cindy Sitzman
