Elizabeth A. Roh, 79, of Abie, died Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at St. Joseph's Villa in David City.
Funeral Mass will be Saturday, August 1, 2009 at 10:00am in Sts. Peter and Paul Church, Abie with Fr. Ronald Homes and Msgr. Robert Roh concelebrating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Viewing will be on Friday, from 1-4pm at Chermok Funeral Home; and after 6pm at the church followed by a 7pm rosary. Additional viewing will be Saturday, one hr before services at the church.
Memorials: Aquinas Endowment Fund; Sts. Peter and Paul Building Fund; St. Joseph's Villa.
Elizabeth " Betty" A. Roh was born on January 11, 1930 on the farm near Cedar Bluffs, Ne to Thomas and Tillie(Ladenburger)Shanahan. She graduated high school from Notre Dame Academy in Omaha and then attended St. Mary's College to obtain her teaching certificate. She taught elementary education for several years until she met and married Jerome M. Roh on August 9, 1952 at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church of Plasi. Four children were born to this union. She was a homemaker as well as a production worker for Henningsen Foods in David City, until her health forced her to retire.
Betty was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church of Abie and was very active in the Altar Society. She was on the Abie School Board and a 4-H mom. She was very involved in church and civic duties most of her lifetime. She loved to bake, especially kolaches; enjoyed working hard and was always a team player; she attended the kids sports events and worked the church bazaar every year.
Betty is survived by her sons and spouses: Dan Roh and Carla Allenstein of Lenexa, KS; John Roh of Columbus, NE; Pat(Beth)Roh of Abie, NE; Daughter: Jackie Roh of Greensboro, NC; three brothers: Francis(Mary)Shanahan of Lincoln, NE; Robert(Eileen)Shanahan of Wahoo; and Marvin(Lori)Shanahan of Valparaiso; two sisters: Lorene(Ed)Stuchlik of Weston and Pat(Ken)Tvrdy of Valparaiso. 10 Grandchildren: Thomas, Kaitlin, Jenna and Matthew Roh all of Columbus; Mitchell, Nathan, Rebekah, Joshua, Travis, and Elizabeth Roh all of Abie.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jerome in 2004, and two brothers: Tom and Leo Shanahan.
