Elaine Porter

Elaine was born February 7, 1961 in Schuyler to Leonard and Phyllis (Willman) Valish. She graduated from Schuyler High School in 1979 and from Brown Mackey College in Salina, KS. She was married to Mark Chappell from 1992 to 2001. Elaine married David Porter on June 6, 2007 in Lees Summit, MO. She had worked as a legal assistant for the law firm of Karel and Seckman for 4 years and for the Colfax County Attorney for 10 years before moving to Independence, MO in 2006. Elaine died March 16, 2012 at the Columbus Area Medical Center following a 13 year fight with Leukemia and Lymphoma. Elaine is survived by her husband, David Porter of Independence, MO; son, Nathan Chappell a student at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln; daughter, Natalie Chappell who is living with her father Mark Chappell in Columbus; step daughter, Kathy (Michael) Kellis of Independence, MO; 2 step grandchildren, Tiffany and Tori Kellis; brothers, David (Shirley) Valish of Schuyler and Gene (Diane) Valish of Fremont; sisters, Linda Barron of Columbus and Virginia (Louie) Uhrmann of Woodruff, WI.; aunt, Irene Gobler of Columbus; nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents.
