Elaine Navrkal, of David City, passed away, Monday, September 29, 2008 in Des Moines, Iowa.
Funeral Services will be Thursday, October 2, 2008 at 9:00am in St. Peter's Church, Bellwood with the Rev. Scott M. Courtney and Msgr. Adrian Herbek concelebrating. Burial will be in the Sts. Peter and Mary Cemetery, rural Bellwood. Visitiaton will be on Wednesday, from 4-7pm followed by a 7pm rosary all at the church. There will be additional viewing on Thursday from 8-9am at the church.
Elaine was born on July 31, 1934 to Lester and Gertie(Coverdale)Bates at Vermillion, South Dakota. She graduated from Sioux City High School. She married Emil Navrkal on October 18, 1951 in Jackson, Nebraska. They moved to Omaha where she worked as a bookkeeper for the Omaha State Bank. The moved to the Butler County area in 1998.
She enjoyed traveling, camping, attending all her grandkids sports activities, playing cards, reading, doing crossword puzzles, dancing, especially square dancing. She and her husband were winter snowbirds to Texas and enjoyed the many friends they met there.
She is survived by her husband: Emil, Son: Randy(Linda)Navrkal of Polk City, Iowa; Daughters: Rhonda(Jeff)Thomm of Monroe, WI; Vicki Stastny of David City; Cheryl(Nick)Schmit of Bellwood, Kim(Gary)Meister of David City; two brothers: Bob(Marilyn)Bates of Des Moines, Iowa; and Gerald(Barb)Bates of Decatur, NE; 16 Grandchildren and 7 Great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother; Howard Bates.
