Dorothy M. Kucera, 80, of Columbus, formerly of Brainard, died Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at BryanLGH East in Lincoln.
Funeral Mass will be Saturday, July 18, 2009 at 9:30am in Holy Trinity Church, Brainard, with Fr. Kenneth Hoesing officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Viewing will be Friday, from 3-5pm at Holesovsky Mortuary in Brainard and from 6-7pm at the church followed by a 7pm rosary. Additional viewing will be on Saturday one hour prior to the Funeral Mass in the church.
Mrs. Kucera was born on November 6, 1928 on the farm near Brainard to John and Emma(Hruska)Nekuda. She lived in the Staplehurst, David City and Brainard areas most of her life. She met and later married Raymond H. Kucera on January 21, 1946 at St. Mary's Church, David City. Three children were born to this union.
Dorothy worked as a farm wife, homemaker, mother as well as working at the ammunitions plant and the egg plant in David City. She was a member of Holy Trinity Church in Brainard, the Brainard Legion Auxillary and the PCCW. She enjoyed baking, cooking, spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She liked her polka music, saying her daily rosary and in earlier years, going to dances.
Dorothy is survived by her son, Gary(Mary Kay)Kucera of Brainard, her daughter, Sharon(Don)Niemann of Columbus; one sister: Rita(George) Humlicek of Ponca, NE: one aunt: Lillian Krepcik of Seward; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild, and one daughter-in-law: Darlene T. Kucera of Brainard.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ray in 2002; her son Edward in 2004; four brothers: Leonard, Richard, Ernest and Raphael Nekuda; two sisters: Alice Kouma and Lillian Rejda, two infant sisters; and one infant brother.
