Dorothy C. Byam of David City, passed away Thursday, August 28, 2008 at St. Joseph's Court in David City.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 2, 2008 at the Chermok Funeral Home in David City. Visitation will be from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday, September 1, 2008 at the Chermok Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Ulysses Township Cemetery in Ulysses.
Dorothy was born on January 16, 1914 in Ulysses, NE to Herman Jacob and Frieda A. (Hinze) Cordes.
Dorothy was confirmed in the First English Lutheran Church in Rising City in 1926. She later became a member of the United Methodist Church of Ulysses. She attended Grade School at District 31 in Ulysses, attended Ulysses High School for 2 years and graduated from York High School in 1931. She married Dean B. Byam on June 13, 1935. Dorothy and Dean lived on farms near Garrison, Surprise and Ulysses.
Dorothy was a member of the Ulysses United Methodist Church, served on the Official Church Board, was a member of the United Methodist Women, Ulysses Extension Club, and a 4-H Leader. She was a Teachers Aide at the Ulysses Grade School.
Dorothy is survived by a son: Kenneth (Cheryl) Byam of Ansley, NE; daughters: LaDean (Dale) Braasch of Rising City, Joyce (Herb) Hallgren, of Grand Island and Janelle Byam of Lincoln; 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Dean, daughter, Ann, brothers: Clifford and Leonard Cordes, and sisters: Helen Waitman and Anita White.
