Doris was born April 11, 1921 to Will and Ethel (Shoemaker) Cherry near Cumro in Southeast Custer County, NE. She attended the Flat Bottom School and graduated from the 8th grade in 1934. She worked on the family farm for a few years and then also worked for neighbors doing household chores for room and board and a little money. She married Leroy Wiese on December 30, 1943 and they farmed in the Flat Bottom area for a few years. In 1952 they moved south of Mason City and farmed for the Holmes family. In 1961 to moved to a farm northeast of Mason City where they farmed and worked at various jobs. Doris owned and operated a small cafe in Mason City for a few years before moving to Grand Island in 1969 where she worked at a couple of factories. Leroy died in 1972 and in 1974 Doris moved to Howells where she met and married Joseph Prusa. They farmed southeast of Howells for a few years until they retired and moved to town and Doris worked for a time at one of the cafes in Howells. Joe died in 1987 and Doris continued to make Howells her home. Doris died December 28th at the Golden Living Center in Schuyler at the age of 89. Doris "Babe" is survived by two sons, Danny (June) Wiese of Axtell and Dennis (Sandra) Wiese of Grand Island; daughter-in-law, Patti Prusa of Howells; 13 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; one brother, Howard (Lorrain) Cherry of Worth, IL. She is preceded in death by husband Leroy Wiese; husband Joseph Prusa; sister, Helen Wiese; brother, Glen Cherry; stepson, Randy Prusa. Family suggest memorials to Family Choice. Funeral lunch will be served at the St. John's School.
