Donald Geiger

Donald J. Geiger, 89, of Columbus, formerly of David City, died Tuesday, August 5, 2008 at Golden Living Center in Columbus.
The Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00am Saturday, August 9 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in David City with Msgr. Adrian Herbek officiating. A funeral luncheon will be served immediately after the Funeral Mass at Winfields in David City. Visitation will be Friday, from 3-7pm followed by a Wake/Knights of Columbus Rosary all at Chermok Funeral Home. Burial will be at 1:00pm at St. Mary's Cemetery, rural Ulysses, Nebraska.
Don was born February 23, 1919 in rural Ulysses to Joseph and Anna (Litjen) Geiger. He attended grade school and graduated from Ulysses High School in 1936. He attended the University of Nebraska for one year before enlisting in the army. He served four years in the Pacific Theater during W.W.II. He married Arlene Schulz on January 19, 1946. He farmed in Ulysses for four years and spent the remainder of his working career as a rural mail carrier. He also worked as a carpenter for the Ulysses Lumber Yard.
He was preceded in death by Arlene, his wife of 60 years, his parents Anna and Joe Geiger, his brothers Clair and Florian, grandson Michael, son-in-law, Pat, and children Judy, Linda, Clair, Gervaise, and James.
He is survived by daughter, Mary Ann (Larry) Marik of Columbus,Nebraska; son, Terry (Peg) Geiger of Leon, Iowa; grandchildren Amy, Nathan (Keila), and Sarah Marik; Tonia (Chad) Krieger, Terra Geiger, Tami (Tom) Nuzum, and Troy (Jay) Geiger, step-grandchildren Crystal (Joe) Oxenreider, and Clint (Karen) Mahoney; eight great grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, Morgan, Mahri, Hallie, Katelyn, Taylor, Mallory, Mia, and one step great grandson, Brock, and sister-in-law Carrie Geiger of Seward.
Memorials may be given to: St. Isidore's Cathoic Church or St. Bonaventure's Catholic Church in Columbus or St. Mary's Church, David City or Immaculate Conception Church, Ulysses.
