Donald C. Fish, 85, of Rising City, passed away on July 5, 2013 at David Place.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at 10am at the First Lutheran Church in Rising City with Pastor Ron Lau officiating. Viewing will be Tuesday from 5 until 7 pm at Chermok Funeral Home. Viewing will resume one hour before the funeral service on Wednesday at the church. Burial will be at Circle Mound Cemetery.
Memorials have been suggested to First Lutheran Church, Rising City Fire Department or Family Choice.
Donald was born July 30, 1927 to Charles and Maude(Chase) Fish on a farm near Rising City. He received his grade school education at Union Hill school, rural Rising City, then attended one year of school in Neosha, MO where he and his family lived for a short period of time before returning to Rising City. Don then graduated from Rising City High School in 1944. After high school he worked as a farm laborer before serving in the U.S. Army from 1945-1947. He returned to Rising City and was employed by Rising City Implement. On March 5, 1950 Don married Luella Heins. They have one son, Tim.
Don operated R.C. Produce for several years as well as being an assistant mail carrier. For 22 years he was employed by Reading Township as their maintainer operator and owned and operated a poultry laying house. Don was a member of First Lutheran Church serving on the church council and faithfully helped keep the church and grounds in good order. He was active in the community serving on the Rising City School Board and Town Board. In 2009 he was recognized for 61 years as a firefighter and 35 years as Secretary/Treasurer of the RCVFD. Working in his shop provided many hours of enjoyment as well as golfing and bowling.
Donald is survived by his wife: Luella; Son: Tim Fish of South Salem, NY; Sister-in-law: Frances Fish; one nephew, and many friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and brothers: Willard and Ernest Fish.
