Donald W. Codr, 75, of Seward, formerly of Bee, died Saturday, September 20, 2008 after a couragous battle with cancer at St. Joseph's Villa in David City surrounded by his family.
Funeral Services will be Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2008 at 10:00am in St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Seward, Nebraska with Fr. Randall Langhorst and Fr. Peter Mitchell concelebrating. Burial will be in the St. Wenceslaus Cemetery, Bee, Nebraska. Viewing will be on Tuesday from 5-7pm at the church followed by a 7pm rosary also at the church. Additional viewing will be on Wednesday, one hr before services at the church.
Donald W. Codr was born on Feb. 7, 1933, on the farm, near Ulysses, Nebraska to Rudolph and Marie(Vogeltanz)Codr. He attended Seward High School graduating in 1950. He entered the Navy during the Korean Conflict in 1951 and served as Radio Operator. He earned the Good Conduct Medal and served in the Philippine Theatre. He was discharged in 1955 and married MaryLou Hladky on Jan. 21, 1956 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Utica, Nebraska.
They moved to Kansas City and then later moved to the Bee, Nebraska area where Don farmed, raised livestock and was a dealer for DeKalb Seed Corn. He moved to Seward in 2007 and during the last part of his illness, was at St. Joseph's Villa in David City. Don was a many year member of St. Wenceslaus Church of Bee, and was on the board when the new Bee church was built. He was active in his church, serving as usher, church trustee and other various duties throughout his lifetime. He was also a member of the the FSA for 35 years, a lifetime member of the Dwight Legion Post 110 and Seward VFW and a past member of the volunteer fire department in Bee. He was a strong supporter of the 4H program and was very active in the local chapters.
He also enjoyed playing cards, Czech music, stock car races and NASCAR. He liked fishing, boating, hunting, traveling, especially to the Czech Republic, and had a very strong devotion to his faith. He loved spending time with his family and attending all the family activities, sports, and get togethers.
Survivors include: Wife: MaryLou; Sons: Ken(Sharon)Codr of Garland, Bob(Becky)Codr of Lincoln, Alan Codr of Seward. Daughters: Cindy(Vic)Benes of Lincoln; Deb(Gary)Vandenberg of David City; Karen(Tom)Smaus of Bruno; Becky(Dan)Kresha of David City; Lisa(Mike)Karel of Lincoln. Sisters: Bette(Bill)Tomes of Utica; Mary Jo(Gary)Karnopp of McCool Junction; Carol Lee(Mike)Korgan of Yachats, OR.; Jean(Bob)Haskins of Portland, OR. 30 Grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and son-in-law: David Dobesh.
