David Mach, 72, of Linwood, passed away on Monday, October 28, 2024 at UNMC in Omaha.
In Lieu of Flowers, Plants, and Statues, Dave's family requests donations be made to the Colfax County Veteran's Memorial, Linwood Hill Cemetery, or Family Wishes for later designation.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, October 31, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Augustine's Catholic Church in Schuyler. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5 until 7 p.m. at the church with a KoC Rosary and Vigil Service at 7 p.m. Additional visitation will be on Thursday from 9:30 until 10:30. Military Honors by VFW Hespen Mitchell Post #4836. Immediately following Mass a funeral lunch will be held at St. Mary's Social Hall. A private family burial will be held at Linwood Hill Cemetery. Svoboda Moravec Johnson Mortuary is handling arrangements for Dave's Family.
David Wayne Mach was born on September 7, 1952, to Adolph and Ethel (Kaspar) Mach in North Bend, Nebraska. He attended Linwood Public School and graduated in 1970 from David City High School. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1975, earning the title of Corporal, with a tour of duty in Okinawa, Japan for 1 year, as Legal Assistance Clerk. After his honorable discharge, Dave drove trucks across the country and hauled grain locally. He enjoyed motor vehicles, building and repairing all sorts of projects, and being his own handyman. He gave lots of advice to help others with engines, trucks, and life. He enjoyed his coffee pals in the afternoons, old country music, and the grandsons’ sporting events.
Dave operated the Linwood Community Post Office for 30 years and was Butler County District 1 Supervisor for 20 years. He was a member of the Linwood Fire Department, Linwood District 2 School Board, a lifetime member of the Schuyler VFW, and lifetime member of the St. Anthony of Padua Knights of Columbus Council, Past Grand Knight, and currently serving as Treasurer. He joined the Catholic Church in 1979 and married Gwen Svehla on October 13, 1979, celebrating 45 years and raised 4 daughters.
Dave is survived by his wife Gwen, Daughters: Brenda (Jeremy) Achterhoff of Bellevue, Karen (John) Hughes of Kearney, Missouri, and Christy Mach of Bellevue: 5 Grandsons: Bennet & Ayden Achterhoff and Dayne, Owen, & Grant Hughes; Siblings – Sisters: Georgia Roebuck, Glory Scheibe, Goldie (Vern) Krivanek, and Sherrie Hampl; Brother: Delbert (Charis) Mach; Sister-in-law; Virginia Mach; Mother-in-law Alice Svehla; Siblings-in-law: Sandy Brichacek, Laurie (Marty) Schlautman, Shelley (Dean) Wherley, Heather Svehla, Rodney (Mary) Svehla, Larry (Jacquelyn) Fairchild, and Randy (Lisa) Svehla; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Daughter Lisa Mach (1987), Brother Dennis Mach, Father-in-law LaVern Svehla, Brother-in-laws: Dan Svehla, Wilfred Scheibe, and David Roebuck.
