Darlene A. Sloup, 75, widow of Larry, of David City died Monday, August 5, 2019 at CHI Heart Institute in Lincoln.

Darlene Svoboda was born on February 19, 1944 to James J. and Rose (Samek) Svoboda in David City. She attended local schools, graduating from David City High School in 1962. On April 18, 1964, she married Larry J. Sloup at Assumption Church in Appleton. Eight children were born to this union.
Darlene was a homemaker and mother and as her children grew older she went to work as a legal secretary. She was very involved in her children's activities, attending most sporting, school, and community events that her children and grandchildren participated in. She was a member of St. Mary's Church and PCCW, belonged to the local extension club, Red Hat Society and was a member of the "bunch".
She enjoyed sewing, cooking, especially her Sunday duck and dumplings dinner, being with family and friends and hosting most major family holiday gatherings.
Darlene is survived by her children: Peg(Brad)Montag of Norfolk, Pam(Rick)Vavrina of Abie, Jamy(Jenny)Sloup of Columbus, Linda(John)Vandenberg of David City, Mike(Sheila)Sloup of Columbus, Mark (Tayler)Sloup and Brad (Chana)Sloup both of David City. 19 Grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild with one more on the way. Sister: Dee "Toots" (Mark)Landholm of Columbus, Sister-in-law: MaryAnn Svoboda of David City, Brother-in-law: Dennis (Judy) Sloup of Seward. Several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Larry in 2014, infant twin daughter, Mary Sloup, brother, Dennis "Don" Svoboda and infant brother, Donald.
