Daniel E. "Gene" Hayes, 90, of Seward, formerly of Rising City, passed away Saturday, August 19, 2017 at Memorial Hospital in Seward.

Daniel was born on January 30, 1927 to George and Elizabeth(Linder) Hayes at Chanute, KS. In 1944 he entered the US Navy and honorably served his country until his discharge in 1946. He returned and graduated from high school in 1947. He married Ardith Farmer on October 30, 1947 at Belleville, KS. Three daughters were born to this union. Daniel was a member of the United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge and Rising City Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed playing cards, gardening and working in his yard.

Daniel is survived by his wife, Ardith, Daughters: Nila Hayes, Sandy Hansen both of Lincoln, and Becky(Jerry)Oborny of David City. 3 Grandchildren: Bobbi, Tom and David Oborny and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter: Tina Oborny, siblings: Earl and Ray Hayes, Lula Boswell and Marcella Henz and nieces and nephews.
