Charles Hlavka, Jr, 95, of Fremont, formerly of Schuyler, passed away Sunday, April 8, 2012 in Fremont. Charles was born January 31, 1917 in Schuyler to Charles and Anna (Blaha) Hlavka. He graduated from Schuyler High School in 1935 and joined the Navy in October 1935. On April 18, 1939, Charles married Vlasta "Sammy" Zelenda in Omaha. Charles worked for the Schuyler Creamery from 1936 to 1950 when he and Eldon Reinmiller purchased the business. Eldon sold his share of the business to Charlie in 1960 and Charlie ran it until 1976. They made butter under the name of Schuyler Maid Butter and sold it in Columbus, Omaha and New York City. In 1977, Charles went to work for Wagner Mills in the office and retired in 1987. After "Sammy" died in May, 2002, Charles moved to Fremont. Charles is survived by a daughter, Nancy Schlemmer of Omaha, grandsons, Terry (Ann) Schlemmer of Omaha and Tony (Donna) Schlemmer of Tennessee, three great granchildren, Taryn (Mark) Merwald of Omaha, Alex Smith of Virginia and Austin Smith of Tennessee; and three great great grandchildren, Berkley Merwald and Meila Merwald, both of Omaha and Riley Smith of Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife "Sammy". Memorials are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church in Schuyler.
