Catherine A. Shope, 73, of David City, passed away Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at David Place in David City.
Funeral Mass will be Friday, January 28, 2011 at 11:00am in St. Mary's Church with Fr. Bernard Kimminau officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
A Catholic Daughters Rosary will be said on Friday, 10:30am in the church.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials to the Catholic Daughters of America, David City Chapter.
Viewing will be held Friday, from 10-11am at the church.
Catherine Ann Shope, daughter of Benjamin and Anna (Svoboda) Bartholome, was born on April 7, 1937 in Lincoln.
Catherine graduated as valedictorian from Presentation Catholic High School (Marietta) in 1955 and attended Nebraska College of Business. Following graduation, she was employed as a secretary for Thomas Law firm and later as a telephone operator for AT&T in Lincoln and David City.
On January 28, 1961, she was united in marriage to Harold Shope at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in David City. In marriage, she was a homemaker and a mother.
Catherine was a Red Cross volunteer and lifelong member of the Catholic Daughters of America. She held several leadership posts in CDA and was the 1994-95 Nebraska state regent. She enjoyed reading, playing the piano, baking, sewing and working crossword puzzles. Most of all, she loved to travel and spend time with her family.
Catherine is survived by her son, Col Patrick Shope; daughter-in-law, Evelyn; grandchildren, Cullen, John (Jack) and Evan of Warner Robins Georgia; and brother; Paul Bartholome of Omaha.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Harold in 2007; sister, Theresa Grow, and her parents.
