Martin "Bud" Vanderheiden, 89, of David City died Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at St. Joseph's Villa in David City.
Funeral Mass will be Saturday, December 6,2008 at 10:00am in St. Mary's Church, David City. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Viewing will be on Friday, from 2-7:30pm followed by a wake service/rosary all at Chermok Funeral Home.
Family has asked that in lieu of flowers, memorials be given as Masses or to Aquinas Endowment Fund.
Bud was born on October 13, 1919 to Peter and Mary (Aerts) Vanderheiden in David City. He attended David City schools, graduating from David City High School in 1937. He married Martha Shonka on Jan. 2, 1940 at Assumption Church, Appleton. He was a lifetime member of Laverne Schmidt Legion Post 327 of Bellwood. He served on the Butler County Fair Board for many years and enjoyed hunting, fishing and farming. He served in the Army for a short while before returning home to help farm.
Bud is survived by his daughter and son-in-law: Sandra and Burt Berglund of Omaha; three grandsons: Lt. Colonel Mark(Brenda)Berglund of Washington, D.C.; David(Amy)Berglund of Loveland, CO; and Darin(Sheryl)Berglund of Fremont, NE. He also has 7 Great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Martha in 1993, two brothers and two sisters.
