Arlene Vanis, 83, of Madison, formerly of Schuyler, passed away Monday, April 14, 2014 in Norfolk. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, April 16 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Schuyler. Visitation will be held one hour before service time at the church. Burial will be in the Ulysses Catholic Cemetery in Ulysses.
Arlene was born June 19, 1930 in Rogers Nebraska to Charles and Anna (Bobisud) Glodowski, Sr. She graduated from Schuyler High School in 1949. On January 29, 1955, Arlene married Theodore Vanis in Schuyler. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Schuyler and served on the Altar Society. Arlene enjoyed playing the piano, polka dancing, and was known for her great Kolaches. She loved spending time with her family, especially her brothers and sisters.
Arlene is survived by 2 daughters: Teresa (James) Gross of Norfolk, Cindy (Denny) Wilson of Sioux City, IA, 4 grandchildren: Eric and Ashley Gross and Christopher and Michael Wilson, 1 sister: Mabel Vitamvas of Schuyler, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.
Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, husband Theodore in 1974, brothers Albert, Adolph, Emil, Charles Jr., and Leon, and sisters Vlasta Houfek, Milada Houfek and Delores Papousek.
