Alma was born November 1, 1924 to James K. and Mildred (Wasko) Mejstrik near Howells, Nebraska. She graduated from Schuyler High School in 1940. On June 12, 1945 Alma married Lambert Beran at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Tabor (rural Howells). They farmed near Howells and upon moving to Howells in 1956 they owned Beran Hardware Store and Beran Plumbing and Heating. They retired and moved to Schuyler in 1992.
Alma was a member of St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, Christian Mothers, Howells American Legion Auxiliary, Women’s Club, Schuyler Gardening Club, Dimick Club, St. Leonard’s Choir. She loved gardening, baking, music, dancing, playing cards, board games and spending time with family and friends.
Alma is survived by sons: Kenneth (Linda) Beran of Kingsland, TX, Richard (Millie) Beran of Fremont; daughter: Janice (Allen) Wedekind of Lindsay, NE; 13 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; sister: Marianne Hobza of Yukon, OK; sisters-in-law: Angie Weber of Norfolk and Anna Beran of Wiggins, CO.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lambert in 2014, brother Herman and sister-in law: Opal Mejstrik, brothers in law: Art Weber, Frank Beran and Tony Hobza.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, the Benedictine Mission House or the Schuyler Senior Center.
