Funeral Mass for Alice Sindelar, age 91 formerly of Howells, will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Howells. Visitation will be held at the church 3 PM to 7 PM on Tuesday and 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM on Wednesday. Rosary will be recited at 3 PM and 7 PM on Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in St. John’s cemetery.
Alice, the second youngest of seven children, was born January 18, 1926 at Schuyler to Karl and Marie (Jukl) Dvorak. She attended rural school in Dodge County. On April 12, 1944 she married Albin J. Sindelar at Holy Trinity Catholic Church at Heun. They farmed in the Howells area until 1977 when they moved to Howells. Alice was a member of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church and the Altar Society. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for over 50 years. She enjoyed crocheting, baking, gardening, playing cards and polka music, but her greatest joy came in spending time with her family. Alice died February 18, 2017 at Parkview Home in Dodge where she had been a resident the last three years.
Alice is survived by son, Albin K. (Anna Mae) Sindelar of Howells; daughters, Angela (Roger) Powell of Grand Island, Adeline (Ken) Hanel of West Point and Ann (Eugene) Brester of Howells.; 17 grandchildren; 44 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Albin (2/9/1997); brothers, Charles and John Dvorak; sisters, Mary Novotny, Ann Blancato, Vlasta Sindelar and Sylvia Matejka.
Family suggest memorials to St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, St. Joseph’s Retirement Center in West Point or Howells Community Catholic School.
Funeral Dinner will be served at St. John's School.
