Alfred Bongers, 80, of David City passed away on May 25, 2013 at St. Elizabeth's Regional Medical Center in Lincoln.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, May 30, 2013 at 10 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church in David City with Father Bernard Kimminau officiating. Viewing will be Wednesday from 5 until 7 at the church followed by a 7 PM Rosary. Viewing will resume one hour before Mass on Thursday at the church.

Alfred Matthew Bongers was born November 30, 1932, to Carl and Clara (Birkel) Bongers at their home in Brainard. He graduated from David City High School and attended St. Benedict's College for 3 years.
During this time, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served during the Korean Conflict. Alfred was a lifetime farmer. In order to farm year round, he traveled to Australia during the winters for 15 years.
He married Susan Schlentz on August 31, 1984. The most important aspect of Alfred's life was his love for his family. Alfred was a long time member of St. Mary's Catholic Church where he served as an acolyte for 29 years. Alfred was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1717 and The Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Bongers and daughter, Sara Bongers of Denver, Colorado.
Alfred is preceded in death by his parents and brother, John Bongers.
